Halo: The Master Chief Collection will get an update today, that will address problems with the campaign, user interface and some party issues with matchmaking. But as noted in an earlier post, a patch to fix severe multiplayer matchmaking problems isn’t coming until sometime next week. Earlier today, Industries, rolled out an update that was aimed at improving the stability of dedicated servers and at setting the stage for future matchmaking content updates. They even postponed the Halo pre-season championship tournament until the issue is resolved. What tonight’s update doesn’t include is a solution for the troubles that have plagued Halo players attempting to get into multiplayer matches in any of the four titles included in The Master Chief Collection. That fix is coming in a larger patch that’s focused on matchmaking performance, an update that’s scheduled to be released next week. Until then players can follow the advice of the developers to play multiplayer game. Raja is obsessed with technology and Cricket for as long as he can remember.
Is Halo down?
Reach is good, but ODST is on a whole other level. It’s a four-player co-op survival-fest with no equipment–just your wits, your weapons management skills, and silenced 2x scope pistol. Halo 3’s weapons are coming over to Firefight. This is a big, big deal that adds a new dimension of play. What could it be?
This is also a big deal.
New changes coming to Halo: MCC. Out of the box, Reach’s base King of the Hill variant does not support a 90 second hill rotation option. Let’s get started by talking about Map Selection in MCC Matchmaking with Max.

Matchmaking is a multiplayer system, which allows players or teams to be matched with others for the purpose of playing an online multiplayer game via Xbox Live Gold Membership. Matchmaking is a multiplayer system that provides players the ability to enter into a game with less effort. Individuals or teams search for a game, and are matched by the system with other similar players. Once an appropriate number of players is found, the match is made and the game can begin.
In Halo 2 , the matchmaking system was fairly simplistic and very user-friendly, though it does not have any form of custom games search system that is present in Halo: Combat Evolved PC Version. There are two options available in the matchmaking system; the Quickmatch and Optimatch. The Quickmatch option immediately put the player in any available match from the most recent matchmaking playlist the player selected.
The player, however, did not have any control over the gametype. Optimatch, on the other hand, allowed the player to search their preferred gametypes from a playlist and enter any available match. The matchmaking data from Halo 2 would be used to help develop TrueSkill, the skill-based ranking system used in future Halo titles and other video games. In Halo 3 , players can choose from two forms of matchmaking; ranked and social with each having different gametypes.
Should they lose, no EXP will be given. However, if the player quits the game during a match, one EXP will be deducted from their account. Unlike Halo 2, if a party has a high variability of skill levels in the current playlist, it will acknowledge it as a “mixed party” and will attempt to match with another party or several parties of a similar mix of ranks between the players.

Unfortunately, it turns out that putting such an ambitious idea into action is no easy feat and Halo: The Master Chief Collection was rife with problems from the word go. Long wait times, lack of certain dedicated playlists and optimization problem abounded for a good while, and it was enough to drive many a fan from the game entirely. Yet, Microsoft and i remained dedicated to supporting the game through it all and the result is a Halo experience any shooter fan can enjoy.
For the first couple years of its life, the matchmaking experience in Halo: The Master Chief Collection left much to be desired. As for the multi-game playlists, players tended to favor Halo 3 over the others. The current iteration of Halo: The Master Chief Collection has done away with the playlist system in its entirety. In its place is a set of parameters for players to set before they start looking for games. As a longtime Halo fan who hopped back on in anticipation for Halo: Reach, engaging with this new system has been encouraging.
That means Microsoft and i have been actively supporting it and then some for almost five years now. It took a long time to get to this point, but it was worth it.
